Public Statement Regarding City of Ozark IGA

November 25th, 2025

Public Statement

The Ozark Special Road District is sending this notice to the public that it is suspending the road share agreement it has with the City of Ozark, effective Monday, December 1st. This means that streets within the Ozark city limits that the Road District has maintained will go back to City responsibility. These functions include repairs, snow removal, and stormwater maintenance.

The Road District has prepared a street map that marks the streets and roads that the Road District will control and those that the City of Ozark will control. That map will be available on the Road District website at osrdmo.gov. You may also contact the Road District office at (417) 581-1632.

People may question why streets and roads controlled by the Road District and City are sometimes closely aligned with one another. That is likely because the City of Ozark annexed a portion of a street, without including the entire street during the annexation process.

The Road District regrets that it had to take this action. The Road District has been concerned for the past few years that the City of Ozark is not requiring developers to comply with public roadway and/or stormwater standards when construction projects start. This has interrupted the Road District from other work, cost it time and money, and confused the public. This has been a frequent problem. The Road District has attempted to negotiate these and other issues with the City. The City has offered no terms or solutions since the Road District first approached the City in April.

The Road District is reviewing many projects within its 100-mile service territory. These projects are both large and small. We completed a rebuild of McCauley Bridge in August using our own employees and saved over $300,000.00. We are committed to conservative management for maintaining roads and responsible stormwater management. We look forward to hearing from you about worthy projects within our territory.
